Requires hospitals to give patients itemized bills

Requires certain South Carolina healthcare facilities, such as hospitals and hospice centers, to give patients an itemized bill listing services and charges. Starting January 1, 2027, the bill must be available electronically and in writing on request, and must use plain language and show any amount the patient owes after insurance. Patients may waive the bill but can still ask for it later, and facilities that break the rule can face discipline from their licensing authority.
