Requires American-made iron and steel in state-funded public works

Requires government agencies and public entities in South Carolina to include a rule in contracts for public works projects paid for with state funds. The rule says iron and steel products permanently built into the project must be made in the United States. Exceptions apply when American-made products are not available in enough quantities or quality, when they would raise total project costs by more than 25 percent, or when the official in charge finds compliance is not in the public interest.
